I had a hugely successful career in IT recruitment for 15 years, and I’m now fulfilling my ambition of writing for a living.
I help recruitment businesses achieve their strategic marketing goals (increased visibility, engagement and revenue), with engaging, targeted, impactful content and compelling, persuasive, results-driven copy.
Hi, I’m Fran. Mum of boys. Bookworm. Lover of good food, red wine and comfy pyjamas. Ex recruiter. Author of children’s, middle grade and young adult books. Content writer, copywriter and proofreader. Unashamed word nerd. Based in Yorkshire, UK.
From as far back as I can remember, I have always been obsessed with reading books and writing stories. From the moment I could read independently I devoured books of various genres, with a particular passion for Roald Dahl and all things dark and twisty. As soon as I could hold a pencil I started writing stories – wild imaginative tales, short stories, sad stories, funny stories, poems… reading and writing was my greatest love, and I vowed I’d grow up to be a writer. However, I grew older and life had other things in store for me.
I graduated with a BA (Hons) Business Degree in 2003 and embarked on a graduate scheme with a large corporate IT Recruitment agency, and with hard work and tenacity I worked my way up from a Graduate Trainee to a Principal Consultant, building an exclusive client portfolio and smashing my sales targets month on month, year on year. In 2008 I branched out and set up my first recruitment business which took off immediately, and I sold up in 2010 when I started a family. Through the sale of my shares I was fortunate enough to be able to take some time out to spend with my two boys before setting up on my own again in 2012, this time working from home. I took a short break again a couple of years later to have my third boy, before returning to my business once again.
2017 was a turning point for me, and certain life circumstances forced me to question everything I was currently doing, the road I was travelling on, and the future I was heading towards. I did a great deal of soul searching and unsurprisingly, much of this was related to my career. Did I actually love it? Not anymore. Did it make my soul sing? Nope. Did I jump out of bed on a morning, excited about the day ahead? Double Nope. Did I long to jump out of bed on a morning, exhilarated by something I was so passionate about? HELL, YES!
Hello writing, it’s me again!
So I decided enough was enough. I took a huge leap of faith and walked away from a lucrative recruitment career that spanned 15 years, and here I am now – writing for a living. I truly believe that if you have a calling, a passion for something that burns so fiercely, you owe it to yourself to honour it. Life is short and it’s meant to be enjoyed, not endured. And wouldn’t it be awful to reach the end of your days having not done the things you really, truly wanted to do?
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading, and please feel free to get in touch.
Much love, Fran x
